One hundred girls from basic schools across the Jirapa Municipality are set to benefit from a specialized digital literacy programme in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at St. Francis of Assisi Girls’ Senior High School in Jirapa.
The training, launched on September 23, 2025, by Jirapa Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Peter To-ang, is part of a nationwide initiative aimed at equipping young girls with critical digital skills. Hon. To-ang underscored the importance of ICT in today’s rapidly evolving world, urging participants to make the most of the opportunity.
“I highlighted the importance of digital literacy and encouraged them to take their training seriously,” he told journalists after the event. He also appealed to the trainers to be patient and supportive, noting that “a good number of the girls hail from areas where ICT is still unfamiliar.”

The participants, selected from both public and private basic schools in the municipality, will undergo intensive training to develop essential ICT skills.
The Girls-in-ICT programme is spearheaded by the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation in partnership with the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) and the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT.
Designed to bridge the gender gap in technology, the initiative seeks to empower young girls with digital literacy and inspire them to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
The Jirapa Municipal Assembly has pledged its full support to ensure the programme’s successful implementation in the area.
