2025 BECE Begins Smoothly Across Jirapa Municipality

The 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) officially commenced today, June 11, across the Jirapa Municipality in a smooth and orderly manner.

A total of 1,255 candidates are participating in the exams, comprising 529 boys and 726 girls—reflecting a notable female majority. These candidates are drawn from 50 registered schools, including both public and private Junior High Schools within the municipality.

Examinations are being conducted at four designated centers: St. Francis Girls’ Senior High School—Centre A, St. Francis Girls’ Senior High School—Centre B, Jirapa Senior High School, and Ullo Senior High School.

According to Donald Puakyiene, Public Relations Officer of the Jirapa Municipal Education Office, the District Education Directorate is pleased with the smooth start of the exam. He commended school authorities, invigilators, and security personnel for their dedication to maintaining a peaceful environment conducive to effective examination conduct.

As the examination progresses, stakeholders remain hopeful for a successful and incident-free process.

Well-wishes have poured in from several community leaders, including the Paramount Chief of Jirapa, Naa Donglabong Dinaa Ganaa III; the Jirapa Municipal Youth Chairman, Richmond Bayuo; and Pastor Stephen Asante, Area Head of the Church of Pentecost, among others.

On the national level, 603,328 candidates are sitting for the BECE across all 16 regions. The cohort comprises 297,250 males and 306,078 females—mirroring the gender trend observed in Jirapa—and marks a 5.99% increase compared to the 2024 figures.

According to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), the exams are taking place at 2,237 centers nationwide, with 20,395 candidates expected to take part in various subjects. Private school candidates will sit for their exams at 15 designated centers.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the 2025 BECE is scheduled to conclude on Thursday, June 17.
