Cape Coast MPs to Relaunch Student Enrollment Advocacy Initiative

Members of Parliament in Cape Coast are set to revive advocacy efforts aimed at increasing student enrollment from the metropolis into top-tier senior high schools within the area.

Speaking during a donation ceremony for first-year SHS students, the MP for Cape Coast South, Hon. George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, emphasized the need to secure greater access for local students to prestigious schools in the city.

The donated items included mattresses, trunks, chop boxes, and school bags, provided to support newly admitted students as they begin their secondary education.

Hon. Ricketts-Hagan revealed plans to collaborate with fellow parliamentarian Hon. Dr. Mintah Nyarko and other stakeholders to reignite the enrollment advocacy project he began 13 years ago.

“We started this initiative to ensure that more of our children gain admission into the top secondary schools here in Cape Coast,” he explained. “We made progress until the introduction of the Free SHS policy made the process more challenging. Now that the NDC government is back, we are reviving this crusade to secure more opportunities for our students.”

He stressed that the move would help residents of Cape Coast South benefit from the high-quality education available in the metropolis.

Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of Cape Coast, Hon. George Justice Arthur, urged beneficiaries to make good use of the donated items and excel academically.

The MCE also raised concerns about rising cases of child neglect, announcing plans to introduce bylaws to curb the situation.

“Children under 18 years found roaming the streets after 9 p.m. will be arrested, and their parents detained,” he cautioned. “This strict enforcement will help protect our children and safeguard their future.”

The donation event forms part of broader community efforts to promote education and youth development within the Cape Coast Metropolis.
