Mahama Orders MMDCEs to Declare Assets by July 15 or Face Sanctions

President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has issued a firm directive to all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), mandating them to declare their assets by July 15, 2025, or face sanctions.

The President made this announcement during an orientation and training program held in Accra for newly appointed MMDCEs on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. He emphasized that the declaration of assets is a constitutional obligation, not a choice, and urged all appointees to comply within the specified time frame.

“You are among the category of public officers who are required by the Constitution to declare your assets, and I expect that by July 15, all of you would have done so,” President Mahama stated.

He cautioned that any MMDCE who fails to comply with this directive would be sanctioned accordingly. He also warned that non-compliance could attract investigations from state anti-corruption agencies, adding that he would not intervene on behalf of any official found to be in breach of the law.

The call forms part of broader efforts by the government to strengthen accountability and transparency at the local governance level, especially as significant funds are disbursed from the District Assemblies Common Fund to support development at the grassroots.

President Mahama reiterated his commitment to fighting corruption and ensuring ethical leadership across all levels of governance. He noted that some previous appointees had already faced penalties for failing to declare their assets and urged the new officials to learn from those examples.

The orientation program brought together MMDCEs from across the country, and it focused on promoting good governance, decentralization, and adherence to public accountability mechanisms.
