President Mahama Urges Ghanaians to Protect Ghana’s Peace and Unity

President John Dramani Mahama has called on all Ghanaians to safeguard the nation’s hard-earned peace, emphasizing that unity is vital to Ghana’s continued progress and stability.

Speaking at the State House during the National Thanksgiving Day celebration, President Mahama acknowledged Ghana’s global reputation as a beacon of peace on the African continent, attributing much of the country’s success to divine providence and the collective will of its people.

“Across our beloved continent, and indeed the world, what do we see? We see conflict, disaster, instability, and rising despair,” President Mahama said. “However, here in Ghana, we remain an oasis of peace despite our challenges. That peace must not be taken for granted.”

He highlighted how the peaceful coexistence of religious and ethnic groups in Ghana has strengthened the country’s identity rather than weakened it. “Our churches and mosques do not compete for dominance. They coexist in mutual respect and dignity. Our diversity is not a source of division; it is a powerful force for unity.”

The President urged citizens to reject attitudes and behaviours that could endanger the nation’s peace, including tribalism, religious extremism, and political hostility.

We must build bridges, not barriers. We are one people, sharing one land and pursuing one destiny,” he said. “True thanksgiving is not just what we say, but how we live. Let us speak words that heal, not harm. Let us act with honesty and compassion.”

The National Thanksgiving Day celebration served as a powerful reminder of Ghana’s enduring commitment to peace, unity, and moral leadership.
