The Ghana Police Service in the Central Region has arrested two individuals in connection with an attempted smuggling operation involving 250 bags of cocoa beans in Elmina.
The arrests were made on the night of Sunday, June 8, 2025, following a targeted intelligence-led operation. The suspects, identified as Andy Kwofie and Francis Armah, were apprehended after police received a tip-off about a syndicate allegedly engaged in the smuggling of cocoa beans and illicit drugs from Elmina to neighbouring countries.
According to a police statement released today, officers intercepted a Hyundai Mighty truck with registration number CR 726-25 at around 11:00 p.m., driven by Kwofie. The truck was loaded with 250 bags of cocoa beans suspected to be bound for illegal export via sea routes.
During interrogation, Kwofie allegedly disclosed that the consignment was to be handed over to Francis Armah, who would facilitate its transportation across national borders. Armah was subsequently arrested later that same night.
The impounded truck is currently being held at the Central Regional Police Headquarters in Cape Coast, while the suspects remain in custody to assist with ongoing investigations.
Police say efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the suspected cocoa and illicit drug smuggling syndicate operating in the area.
