The Mayor of the Wa Metropolitan Assembly, Alhaji Nurah Issa Danwana, on Tuesday, July 23, 2025, commissioned a newly constructed and fully furnished two-unit kindergarten (KG) block located within the Upper West Regional Hospital premises.

At the commissioning ceremony, the hospital administrator, Mr. Francis Luguniah, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Wa Metropolitan Assembly for its vital role in completing the project. He also acknowledged the significant contribution of the hospital’s former director, who initiated and lobbied for the establishment of the KG block before his transfer.

Mr. Luguniah used the occasion to appeal for further support, calling on the mayor to assist in the construction of an oncology unit to provide cancer diagnosis and treatment services to residents of the Upper West Region.

In his remarks, Mayor Danwana praised all stakeholders involved in the project and reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to improving both education and healthcare in the region. He emphasized the strategic importance of establishing an early childhood education facility within the hospital, describing it as a step toward improving work-life balance and enhancing service delivery.

The mayor also encouraged hospital authorities to ensure the proper maintenance of the new KG block and to use it for its intended purpose. He further revealed that the Member of Parliament for Wa Central, Hon. Dr. Alhaji Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, is actively lobbying for the establishment of an MRI diagnostic and cancer treatment center within the Wa Metropolis to strengthen the hospital’s diagnostic and oncology capabilities.

The newly commissioned KG facility is expected to ease childcare challenges faced by hospital staff and visiting parents, ultimately contributing to increased productivity and improved healthcare services at the regional hospital.
